Researchers, postdocs, PhD students and professionals can propose a cognitive-science internship for the Master’s students. Submission is open to anyone; each offer is published only after review by the program director. Please write your offer in English, the language all our students share.
Before posting an internship offer
Before posting an offer, please make sure it meets the requirements of the Master of Cognitive Science.
Our master’s is a research-based program. Internships must therefore correspond to genuine research activity: a rigorous scientific approach, grounded in empirical data and built around one or more research questions. Internships consisting mainly of observation, project management, organisational tasks, or non-scientific approaches are not eligible.
Requirements differ depending on whether it is an M1 or an M2 internship.
The M1 internship
The M1 internship is a first immersion in research. It runs about two days a week, from February to mid-June, and must take place in the Paris region so that students can follow their courses alongside it.
It may be carried out in an academic laboratory, a company, a start-up, or a public institution, provided it rests on genuine research activity. Supervision may be provided by a researcher, a postdoctoral fellow, a PhD student, or a professional from outside academia.
The student must play an active role in the project and make an identifiable contribution, rather than being limited to assisting tasks.
The M2 internship
The M2 internship is the heart of the program. It begins with a preparatory phase, about one day a week between September and December, devoted to defining the project and reviewing the literature. This phase is followed by a full-time research internship, from January to mid-June.
The project must include a substantial component of independently conducted research and cannot be reduced to assisting another researcher. The main supervisor must hold a doctorate (typically a researcher or a postdoctoral fellow). A PhD student may take part in the supervision but cannot be the sole supervisor.
For internships carried out beyond academia, an academic researcher must be designated as official co-supervisor and take an active part in following the project. M2 internships may take place anywhere in France or abroad.
A genuine supervisory commitment
Supervising a student represents a genuine commitment. Supervisors are asked to meet their student at least once a week, to read the entire thesis, and to hold a mock defence before the final defence.
Internship agreement and compensation
All internships must be covered by an internship agreement (convention de stage) signed before they begin. In accordance with French regulations, host organisations located in France must pay compensation for internships lasting more than two months. M2 internships are therefore always paid.
Please read to the end; the consent box unlocks once you reach the bottom.
